New Year, New Work
New Year, New Work
Ok I got some new work this year already. I plan on doing more this year, it’s just been very busy at work so I haven’t had much time to breathe! But new stuff is coming. Check out the stuff I’ve done so far.
Happy Holidays
Just a quick Happy Holidays and to let you know there’s some new work up in the Tokens and Sketchcard sections!
Tokens & Emblems
I just uploaded a ton of custom token & emblem cards I’ve created the last couple of months. I am hoping they will be as popular as my custom playmats.
Sketchcards
Here is some of the new work I promised. Some sketchcards I’ve been drawing up in preparation for attending smaller cons in the future. I figure $5 a card, I was not sure of the going rate for sketchcards. So if anyone has any input feel free to let me know.
The Great CT Power Outage
Well we’re all getting back up to speed after the huge power outage here. I’ll have new work up soon now that I can turn on my Mac!
NY Comic Con Report
Well the NYCC has come and gone. Suffice to say I wasn’t thrilled with it this year compared to previous ones. I went on Sat. which was by far probably the busiest day. As soon as I entered I knew something was off because all I saw was kids/teenagers in Anime costumes. Now I like Anime as much as the next comic fan but when did NYCC become all about anime cosplay? There was anime stuff in the past but it seemed to be separate from the comic stuff, this year was not the case. Plus every anime costume has some ridiculously large prop like a giant sword or a big weapon to carry around making the crowds even harder to navigate through. I saw a lot less superhero costumes than the last two years too. It seemed a lot of the smaller publishers didn’t have booths this year (or I never saw them because of the large amount of people). Wizards of the Coast didn’t have a booth and there were no Magic tournaments to go play in like past years, which I really enjoyed as a break from walking around the convention. Oni Press had a portfolio review but I was denied because they cut off the line 3 people in front of me. That frustrated me because I’m a professional designer and freelance illustrator and I couldn’t get in a portfolio review because the line was packed with students or people who really didn’t have any business being there. I’ve heard some stories from cons why comic folk don’t like to review portfolios. I just saw it first hand. People without sequential pages (aren’t all comics sequential pages? Why would you not have this!), portfolios filled with college art projects and pin ups (I’ve heard numerous editors say this is a bad idea), people who look like they didn’t shower that day (seriously a portfolio review is like a job interview, would you not shower and wear black nail polish [guys, not girls] to an interview? I know I wouldn’t!), etc. etc.
A.N.A. Comics Swimsuit Charity Special
So my good Erica and I have gotten pieces in the A.N.A. Comics Swimsuit Charity Special. All profits from this book get donated to cancer research. We also both made the cover! How cool is that?! So go to http://anacomics.com/ and pre order your book for $10 plus shipping. It’s a good cause and it supports all the artists that donated to the book. I will also be attending NYC Comic Con on the 15th. My friend Erica has a table to promote her book “M3″ and I am bringing my recent comic samples to get some reviews. (Buy her book at Indy Planet or at Amused.com) And I have also been selling playmats at some recent Magic tournaments, and I also have started to make custom token cards (kind of like sketch cards). So if you’re interested in any of that or original work send me an email. I’ll have a price list soon.
New Storyboard Art
Well I added a ton of storyboard art I did for work to my portfolio. One of the commercials is actually running now. Storyboarding is something I’d like to get into more and I think this is a good start. Still working on coloring new Cobra turnarounds and I may be selling some of the playmats I have been doing on Ebay. I’ll keep you posted with that.
Hurricane Irene and ComicConn
Well Hurricane Irene came and left, I still have power and I live on a hill so no flooding here. Only thing was I had to cancel my trip to ComicConn on Sat. The news made it seem like Armageddon was coming. Roads were being closed, some friends who were supposed to come could not get here, people were fighting each other over bread, it was a mess. So I missed out on the scouting trip to ComicConn cause I was hoping to get a table next year and I wanted to check out the crowd. I also wanted to meet Tyler James who created the 30 Characters Challenge that I did (and finished) this year. I did go and get his sketchbook online though. Anyway check out the new Cobra turnarounds I did recently, they are pretty popular on Deviant Art. (The link to my page over there is on the right.) I’ll have more playmats up and more turnarounds soon! Plus some other secret projects!
New Turnaround Art
Ok so I did some more turnarounds because they got great response on Deviant Art. I did all the major villains from Cobra. They are still in the works but I put up 4 so far.
